SUDDEN
message from Rick Mosher, Minister
March brings thoughts of post season basketball. It’s state playoff time and, in college, it’s “March Madness”. The thing about post season basketball is that a team’s season and the career of the senior players can come to a halt very abruptly. Seedings don’t always hold. Upsets happen. Some already happened in high school ball in February. When it’s over it’s OVER.
Now I know some of you who aren’t sports fans are thinking this old coach is losing his marbles by talking about sports on here but, just as Jesus used the things of everyday life in His parables to illustrate vital eternal truths, the suddenness with which a season can end is an illustration of how fragile life is and how abruptly it can end.
We have been studying Hebrews in our Adult Wednesday night group. There is a very pointed truth for us all in Hebrews 9.27: “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that comes judgment.” Death can come very abruptly and suddenly life is over.
We also know some day Jesus is coming back. Just as life ends abruptly with ones death, life as we know it on earth will end quite suddenly when He returns. Concerning this, Jesus said in Matthew 25.13, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
If you aren’t ready for life to end suddenly isn’t it time you make Jesus your Lord and Savior so you can be? He died for our sins and rose again from the dead to defeat sin and death so we can be ready for eternity.
